Samata is a British born Ghanaian entrepreneur working across fashion, media and entertainment, she is a published author (THE TRIBETM Empowerment Journal, The Fashion Designer’s Resource Book – Bloomsbury Publishing), global cultural sustainability activist and writer (The Guardian, VOGUE, Huffington Post).
Samata is CEO for RCGD Global, home of Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green Dress campaign, showcasing sustainable fashion on the red carpet at the Oscars every year, Samata has been bringing sustainability to the forefront of conversation and action within the fashion and apparel industry. Most recently Samata founded THE TRIBETM, a global collective, created for women to empower and celebrate each other. She is passionate about WEB3 and the next realm for creating sustainable impact through digital innovation.
As CEO for Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green Dress campaign, showcasing sustainable fashion on the red carpet at the Oscars every year, Samata has been bringing sustainability to the forefront of conversation and action within the fashion and apparel industry. Working with brands such as Louis Vuitton, Armani, Vivienne Westwood and others, the campaign celebrated its 10th year of activism in 2019. Conceived by Suzy Amis Cameron RCGD has been dedicated to innovating and bringing diversity to the carpet through Samata herself, and the talent that she has selected for the campaign including Emma Roberts, Lakeith Stanfield, Camila Alves, Laura Harrier and Priyanka Bose amongst others. To date the campaign has collaborated with talent from 21 countries and since its inception, the campaign has grown to include brand collaborations, internships, knowledge-share platforms and educational experiences for students, and its remit continues to grow.
Samata, a talented presenter and producer, is committed to creating positive change within all the fields she operates in and influences. Her work has been featured in i-D, Business of Fashion, VOGUE (USA & UK), Essence, The Guardian, Hello Giggles, The Huffington Post, Women’s Wear Daily, ELLE, InStyle, Essence, Red Magazine, Refinery 29 and more. The former Fashion Editor of The Talent Magazine, is also Editor of SamataHome.com, a portal for her work and personal style, a board for curated style pointers and a central hub for the like-minded to discover and connect. Her expertise on fashion, entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment has formed discussions with the United Nations Office for Partnerships, Copenhagen Fashion Summit, SXSW Eco, ITV News, BBC Newsnight and more.
Whilst working with Red Carpet Green Dress Samata launched THE TRIBE, a women's only event and collective in 2016. Doubling as both a movement and a global brand, THE TRIBE brings together women around the world to inspire, encourage and support each other in a celebratory atmosphere – whether by the creation of empowering products such as THE TRIBE Empowerment Journal, online through conversation, forum and engagement or offline through events (intimate or large), THE TRIBE is about encouraging a shift in mindset. THE TRIBE brings together women from a plethora of industries including Fashion, Media, Business, Law, Food, Drink, Art & Design, Lifestyle, Sport & Entertainment, Science and Public Life. For THE TRIBE Samata has interviewed the likes of environmentalist Vandana Shiva, actor Priyanka Bose and NASA Public Affairs Officer Stephanie Schierholz.
Samata has always been passionate about connecting with the global design community, working as a lecturer at a number of global fashion colleges including Central St Martins, Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, London College of Fashion, Parsons, Berkeley, Ravensbourne and the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, engaging with fashion design students and aspiring fashion entrepreneurs. Mentoring and lecturing on a range of subjects including Fashion PR, Marketing, Networking, Fashion Enterprise, Creative Direction, Accessing your Creativity and Understanding the Industry. Her experience within fashion colleges and emerging designers, and with Red Carpet Green Dress, inspired her to write the book The Fashion Designer’s Resource Book (published through Bloomsbury in 2013).
Samata has always worked in and around the fashion industry, as PR for a Chelsea Kings Road boutique, or PR for a Japanese clothing label. As Fashion Editor of The Talent Magazine, Samata worked with talent such as actor Nicholas Hoult and Jessica Pain.
Samata has worked on several philanthropic and charitable projects. In 2006 Samata recorded a spoken word charity single for music project entitled Enfants Soldats, later organising a fundraising concert in Freetown, Sierra Leone for a public sanitation project. In September 2009 Samata designed costumes for the ITV News team as part of the ‘Newsroom’s Got Talent’ fundraiser benefiting Leonard Cheshire Disability and Helen & Douglas House Hospice for Children and Young Adults. A keen philanthropist, Samata is an active fundraiser for both America’s soon-to-be first plant-based school, MUSE School CA, founded by Suzy Amis Cameron. She has also been an advocate for international organisation Women for Women International.
