Primark , Director of Ethical Trade & Environmental Sustainability
Katharine Stewart is the Director of Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability at Primark, a role she has held since 2009.
Katharine began her career as a Buyer for a number of multinational brands, including Clarks Shoes and Gap. She first worked for Primark as a Senior Buyer in 1995, leading the brand’s hosiery and accessories division for over 10 years. Drawing on what is more than 30 years’ experience within fashion and retail has been critical to Katharine’s development of Primark’s ethical and environmental work. Katharine has responsibility for Primark’s growing Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Team. The team works closely with factories and suppliers that produce items for Primark, as well as forging connections with local organisations on the ground. Today, the team comprises more than 110 people based in Primark’s sourcing countries.
Primark has been a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative since 2006, and achieved ETI Leadership in 2011; placing the company among the top ranking of ETI member brands. From 2014 to 2018, Katharine served on the Board of the ETI and, in 2013, she was awarded Business in the Community’s Responsible Business ‘Game Changer’ Award for her contribution to CSR at Primark.
