Growing up in London Karen studied at Camberwell College of Arts and went on to graduate from Ravensbourne with a degree in Fashion & Textiles in 1993. Karen has worked as design director for some well-known high street brands including Debenhams, Marks and Spencer and Warehouse. At Marks and Spencer Karen learnt about sustainability within the manufacturing of fashion and continued to champion this during her tenure at Warehouse, implementing a strategy to move towards 100% sustainable fabrics. In addition, Karen worked at Amazon creating their initial brand strategy for the new private label department and sat on the British Fashion Council committee for seven years. Co-founding Albaray in 2021with two friends and former colleagues, Paula Stewart and Kirstie Di Stazio, Albaray is a womenswear brand designed with purpose with the belief that sustainable fashion doesn't have to compromise on quality – or cost the earth.
